Samsung is expanding its ATIV Book 9 laptop lineup with a high-performance ATIV Book 9 Pro model featuring a new 4K display and an ATIV Book 9 Spin model that features a rotating rear hinge that lets the device be used in a wide variety of positions, including as a tablet or as a notebook.
The premium laptops, which run on Microsoft Windows 10 Home and will be available later in November, were unveiled by Samsung in a Nov. 4 announcement.
The ATIV Book 9 Pro (pictured) has a 15.6-inch 4K display (3,840 by 2,160) with real-time HDR enhancements, a sixth-generation Intel Core i7 processor 6700HQ, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD SATA3 storage drive and Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M Graphics (2GB GDDR5). The laptop also includes four speakers, a backlit keyboard and 720p HD video capabilities.
Also featured is WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, as well as one USB 3.1 Type C port, three USB3.0 ports, a 4K HDMI output port and an integrated SD card reader.
The ATIV Book 9 Pro is 14.72 inches wide, 9.83 inches deep and 0.70 inches thick, and weighs about 4.45 pounds. Its battery provides up to an estimated 6.5 hours of use before needing to be recharged, according to Samsung.
The ATIV Book 9 Spin
In addition to having a 360-degree back hinge for flexible positioning, the ATIV Book 9 Spin features a 13.3-inch Quad HD+ display (3,200 by 1,800) with real-time HDR enhancements, a sixth-generation Intel Core i7 processor 6500U, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD SATA3 storage drive and Intel HD Graphics 520 with shared memory. The laptop also includes two speakers, a backlit keyboard and 720p HD video capabilities.
With its special hinge, the ATIV Book 9 Spin can be used as a traditional laptop, as a tented device (an upside down V) or as a tablet, each utilizing the machine’s touch screen.
The Book 9 Spin also features three USB3.0 ports, an HDMI port and an integrated microSD card reader. Its battery provides up to an estimated 7.3 hours of use before needing to be recharged.
Samsung’s real-time HDR enhancements in the displays for both machines are designed to optimize brightness and contrast for all content, enabling users to see clearer, crisper images and text, according to the company.
Both machines also support Samsung’s Outdoor Mode, which promises to make it easier for users to see the device screens even in direct sunlight, and are covered with durable aluminum shells for strength.
“Our new laptops show Samsung’s continued dedication to providing the best options for consumers so they can stay fully connected and productive from anywhere,” Gary Riding, senior vice president of mobile computing at Samsung Electronics America, said in a statement. “The Pro and Spin both feature gorgeous touch screens, lighter designs, and seamless connectivity within the Samsung ecosystem and represent our continued effort to innovate in the PC market.”
The ATIV Book 9 Pro is priced at $1,599, while the ATIV Book 9 Spin is priced at $1,399. Both devices will be sold exclusively through Samsung.com and by Best Buy.
